Description

Five exposition buildings appear on the obverse, each in its own circular panel with a beaded border: the Administration Building in the centre overlaps the four others set above, right, below and left of it, and rays project between the outer panels. Across the bottoms of three circles runs the tiny signature "S D Childs & Co Chicago." The reverse is the aluminum advertisement Childs used on HK-161 and its sisters, with an incuse "Aluminum" on a ribbon and the claim that the same cubic foot weighs 1,204 pounds in gold but only 179 in aluminum. Hibler and Kappen note that this five-building design was reused, in a similar version, on the back of the Ferris wheel piece HK-171, and a variant without the Childs name is on HK-236a. HK-162a is aluminum, 38 mm, made for the fair dedicated in Chicago in 1892.
