=1889-P VAM-42 Doubled Ear, Cotton Leaves, Right Stars, Far Date= Discovered by George Powell, December 2004. 42 (revised) III2 38 C3a (Doubled Ear & Cotton Leaves, Right Stars, Far Date) (190) Obverse III2 38? - Doubled ear a left inside and right outside, hair above ear, bottom edge of two lower cotton leaves and lower cotton boll. Slghtly doubled 1-3 right stars and strongly doubled 4-6 right stars. M in UNUM slightly doubled towards rim. Slightly doubled profile from forehead down to chin with slightly doubled eye front of alligator eye. Date set further right than normal ''Diagnostics'' - Ear doubled at left inside and right outside, doubled lower cotton leaves and strongly doubled 4-6 right stars. The 89 Doubled Ear guide illustrates another marriage (likely a late die stage 1889-P VAM-16) for this variety. Note that the hair above the ear is not doubled all the way across the top of the ear in the picture of the discovery piece in the 2004 plate.
