=1886-P VAM-23 Doubled Ear, Die Gouge Star= Discovered by Herb Zepke, February 2001. 23 III222 · C3a (Doubled Ear, Die Gouge Star) (189) Obverse III222– Slightly doubled ear on left and right inside. Diagonal die gouge from rim towards 7th left star. DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # Date is in the normal lateral position with a high 6, which is typical (and generally unlisted) for 1886 obverses. # The characteristic comet gouge is easily seen over the 7th left star, pointing toward the base of the E. # A couple reverse detail shots to help with future die matching. # Large glob of metal in wing/neck gap. # This variety is known without the die gouge (EDS does not have gouge)
