Description
The 1885 (CC) Morgan Dollar is a dollar produced at the Carson City Mint as part of the Morgan Dollars 1878-1921 series. With a mintage of 228,000, this is an extremely rare issue — the lowest mintage among 4 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, encircled by stars and the reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a wreath. The 1885-CC is another key Carson City date that survived primarily through Treasury hoards. Struck at the Carson City Mint in Nevada, which operated from 1870 to 1893 and produced coins from Comstock Lode silver and gold — among the most collectible mintmarks in U.S. numismatics.
