Description

1881-S VAM-42 S Tilted Left Discovered by Martin Field, March 1982. Revised Dec.2013 Brent Fogelberg. '''42 (revised) III2 1 - C3p (S Tilted Left) (186)''' '''Obverse III2 1'''- Some show short die chip inside upper loop of first 8 at 11 o'clock. '''Reverse C3p'''- Mint mark centered and tilted slightly left. 'Revision notes'; S tilted left of C3 p & III2 I obv with no date doubling. S matches VAM 42 but '''doesn't have die chip at 11 o'clock''' in upper loop of first 8. So added notation only some have die chip. Must have multiple dies. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: [[1881-S VAM-1A1, [[1881-S VAM-42. :Reverse: '''Comments:''' # This exact obverse die was used to produce the [[1881-S VAM-1A1 & [[1881-S VAM-42. # The chip circled in red & the schmutz pointed to w/ blue arrows (full date photo) diminishes as the die wears & disappears by the production of the 1881-S VAM-42. # It appears that [[1881-S VAM-42, [[1881-S VAM-46 & [[1881-S VAM-60 are all '''the same die pair'''.
