Description
=1881-O VAM-34A Doubled 18, Pinned Wing= Discovered by Rickey Bailey, 2010. 34A III2 23 - C3a (Doubled 18, Pinned Wing) (?) I-2 R-5 Obverse III2 23 - Fine raised dots from rusted die on Liberty's head. Reverse C3a - Short die scratch between eagle's wing and body. Three small die chips at top of eagle's right wing inner feathers. Comments: 1. This reverse shared with VAM 40 2. There is a seemingly odd emission sequence involving VAM 34A, VAM 40, and VAM 61. VAM 34A seems to have been struck first and is found with clash marks on both sides. VAM 40 is a different obverse die with no clashes, but a later stage of the same reverse. Both sides develop serious die cracks. The third die pair has the VAM 34A obverse with a new reverse die. The obverse clash is still present, but worn. 3. Exact obverse and reverse of V61,different die states. 4. These features are present of the VAM 34 discovery piece
