Description

This circa 1881 bronze medal cataloged as F&H-302 honors Charles C. Wright, who served as a skilled engraver and die sinker at the United States Mint during the second half of the nineteenth century. Wright was responsible for producing many of the medal dies used by the Mint, working alongside chief engravers William Barber and Charles E. Barber during a period of prolific medallic production. The Fuld-Higby catalog designation F&H-302 places this within the Mint and Treasury officials series of U.S. Mint medals. Medals honoring Mint employees and engravers are relatively uncommon within the broader U.S. Mint medal series, making this piece of particular interest to students of Mint history and the individuals who created America's coinage and medals. Wright's contributions to American die sinking were recognized by his contemporaries through this official tribute medal.

Rarity Notes
