Description
=1879-S VAM-71= Discovered by Brian Raines, February 2010. Revised 2014 71 (revised) III2l - C3k (S Set Rt, Acid Treated Wreath Leaves) (182) Obverse III2l- Some very light tripled left and right stars. Very slightly doubled bottom of 18 ''Die marker''- Single diagonal polish lines at inside and right outside of ear. Reverse C3k- IV S mint mark set right. Acid treated leaves above ON, U & IT of UNITED to strengthen them. Die marker - Curved thread-like die impression on top right leaf of first leaf cluster in right wreath. Comments: 1- VAM-71 is very reminiscent of VAM-66. Tripled stars, doubled date is identical. it also has a counterclashed lip. polishing lines in hair are different but the whole obverse has been polished quite heavily. Overpolished lower reverse with S m/m set rt of VAM 33 C3K reverse. Obv is normal III2l. Only has very slightly tripled some stars & very slightly doubled bottom of 18 which aren't strong enough to photograph & list as separate variety. Did mention in description however. We don't list die thin die cracks(across wheat top of obverse and across bottom of hair) as they vary with die state. AR of DOLLAR extremely shallow due to overpolishing. Diagonal polish line in hair below ear and east of jaw. Horizontal polish lines in bear claw area. image:TRAVISBICKLE8279SV71PLATE1.jpg image:TRAVISBICKLE8279SV71PLATE2.jpg Stars image:kam-110910-1879-s-obv-a.jpg Date. image:kam-111110-1979-s-obv-dbl-datebottom.jpg Marker below ear. image:kam-111110-1979-s-obv-diemarker.jpg Marker in hair. image:kam-111110-1979-s-obv-diemarker-a.jpg Mint mark set right. image:kam-110910-1879-s-rev-a.jpg 2 copyrighted© images below on loan to VAMworld courtesy of oldcollectorcoins from a coin of Brian Raines 840px 840px Discovery piece: ICG-au53(brian raines) 7/2016 Top
