Discovery August 2023, Brent Fogelberg 150 III2 82 • C3bw (Doubled 879, Engraved Leaves, Dbl Right Reverse) (181) Obverse III2 82 - Doubled 879. 8 doubled at left inside of upper loop and slightly tripled at upper left inside of lower loop. 7 strongly doubled across top of digit. 9 slightly doubled along left outside of upper loop. Several short vertical gouges inside ear opening. ''Die markers'' - Fine vertical line thru D shaped void. Line pattern in R of LIBERTY with ‘dot’ on left side just below center stroke. Reverse C3bw - Two outer leaves above ON of ONE re-engraved. Slight touch up work on a couple of leaves opposite U and IT of UNITED. Right wreath bough and bottoms of letters of AMERICA double toward rim. ''Die marker'' - sideways ‘V’ scratch pattern inside bow loop. Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: 150, 166, 63 Comments: # Juan has pointed out that the exact same reverse die was used to produce the 1879-S VAM-63, 1879-S VAM-150 (first use), AND the 1879-S VAM-166. The VAM-150 has no die chip on the eagles wing next to the head/neck gap so it follows it was produced before the VAM-63 and VAM-166 as they do have said die chip.
