1879-S VAM-77 PAF, Engraved Wing Feather From 1878-S, 9 Upper Tailfeathers Discovery 2010 This is a Reverse of '78 (PAF) coin and a Top 100 VAM variety. ''' '''Obverse III2 2e –''' Earlier die state than for VAM 34B without die polishing lines at right of cotton leaf next to cap fold and without over polished area below designer's intial M. ''Die markers''– Same as VAM-34B of fine diagonal polishing line from left side of lower cotton leaf next to cap fold. Confirming die marker for VAM-77 only that has been polished away on VAM-34B - Multiple short polishing lines at various angles at right vee in lower hair vee. '''Reverse B2e –''' Later die state than for VAM-9 with some die cracks at top of United. Slightly different and coarser vertical polishing lines around eagle's head than VAM-9 and slightly shallow EDS. Still has 9 upper tail feathers with two small ones engraved at left side and engraving to strengthen middle feathers of eagle's left wing, same as [[1879-S VAM-9. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: '''Comments:''' # Extremely rare in any grade. # This obverse die was used on [[1879-S VAM-16A, [[1879-S VAM-34B , [[1879-S VAM-57, [[1879-S VAM-77 & [[1879-S VAM-77A POPULATION:17 + 10 Details in the SSDCR27 specimens registered as of Aug/2023, most in the range of VG to VF30 with only 1 XF40!(I know of at least 2 XF45's unregistered) in fact VF30 is the pivotal grade for this variety, and if one is found in XF45 or better is a cause for celebration!
