''Die marker - '' Die polishing lines right side of junction of two lower cotton leaves. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: '''Reverse C3au -''' Engraving on bottom leaf at ON with acid treatment on leaf above, plus acid treatment on bottom leaves at star and N of UNITED. Engraving lines on leaf at O and two leaves at I of UNITED. ''Die marker - '' Horizontal die scratch top middle lower tail feathers. Slightly doubled outside leaves of right wreath. '''Comments:''' There are two distinct stages. The earlier stage has an intact outer leaf in the cluster opposite the left reverse star. Later the leaf is mostly polished away. The stages add a level of interest. The re-engraved leaves exist because of an attempt to correct overpolishing, then the reverse was aggressively polished again. # Same as (former) 1879-S VAM-1i. 1879-S VAM-1i was eliminated in April of 2021.
