=1878-P VAM-228A Die Gouge Cotton Bolls & Front Wheat Leaf= Discovered by Brent Fogelberg,October 2002. . 228A II 2 • C3a (Die Gouge Cotton Bolls & Front Wheat Leaf) (176) Obverse II 2 – Vertical die gouge at base of left boll and long thin die scratch from left side of left boll to right of Y in LIBERTY. Thick die gouge above LI in LIBERTY thru front wheat leaf. Same die as for 1878-P VAM-222B w/ point broken on fourth right star. Reverse C3a – Normal die.
