''Die marker–'' Long thin horizontal polishing line below right cotton boll. Reverse C3a– Die 4 ''–'' Two diagonal polishing lines above top arrow feather. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # Strong polishing lines at the base of the letters "L" and "B" in LIBERTY. # Note: On some specimens, the polishing lines in L and B are quite weak. The lines around the cotton bolls are still present, however.
