=1878-P VAM-228-4 Broken Fourth Right Star, Normal Third Reverse, Die Chip Lower Neck, Polishing Lines in "L" & "B" in LIBERTY= 228-4 II 2 · C3a (Broken Fourth Right Star, Normal Third Reverse, Die Chip Lower Neck, Polishing Lines in "L" and "B" in LIBERTY) (178) Discovered By Mark Witkower Obverse II 2- Die 4 - Small die chip at lower rear of neck. ''Die marker–'' Long thin horizontal polishing line below right cotton boll. Reverse C3a– Die 4 ''–'' Two diagonal polishing lines above top arrow feather. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # Strong polishing lines at the base of the letters "L" and "B" in LIBERTY. # Note: On some specimens, the polishing lines in L and B are quite weak. The lines around the cotton bolls are still present, however.
