=1878-P VAM-186 Broken R= Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1965. 186 II2 - B2c (Broken R) (193) Obverse II2. Some show die chip in hair below LIBERTY, or diagonal die scratch through B or through RT in LIBERTY. Reverse B2c - Arm of R in TRUST filled to form TRUIST. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # VAM 186 plain does exist; broken 4th star to the right of the date; the most distinguishing feature is the extra metal at the top of the bottom loop of the first 8. There is also micro chip in front of the eye just below the eyelid and a couple of thin die polish lines in the upper part of the B in LIBERTY. These last features probably would not be evident on circulated coins. Obverse and reverse are also lightly clashed (no letter transfer), there is at least one unclashed example known 1878-P VAM-186 is scarce in AU, rare in MS63 or better. # COLLECTOR INTEREST: low. # Reverse: is shared with 1878-P VAM-171. # rev:broken r, closed o (god).
