''Die Marker --'' Horizontal polishing lines to right of wreath bow. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # LVA notes-VAM 137. Same reverse as VAM 137, different obv. than VAM 137, So this 1878-P VAM-138 has NEW obv. Has 178 reeds of 137. Not much to go for obv die marker. # Research shows the VAM-137 progression occurred before the VAM-138. The reverse of VAM 137 should show almost no cracking, while the reverse of VAM 138 will always have some cracking thru UNITED. Polish line in R, but NONE in Y; at this point VAM-138 appears to be very scarce; Discovery coin is ICG XF 45 and appears to have started out as proof like. 1878-P VAM-138 PUPs : thin die scratch in fold of hair above the 1st star to the right of the date. image:78v130c12-pup1.jpg 1878-P VAM-138 also has a micro chip inside the lower right of the ear. This feature does NOT exist on 1878-P VAM-137. Close-up of slightly doubled D in DOLLAR and slightly over-polished area next to eagle's right leg on the reverse shared between 137 and 138. image:kgs-kgs-kgs-14.JPG image:kgs-kgs-kgs-12.JPG
