=1878-P VAM-124 Doubled R and Stars = Discovery 2011 - Shared discovery credit - Pat Mullen, John Roberts, Ron Hagler Renumbered from VAM 114.1 124 II/I 16 - B2a (Doubled R and Stars) (178) Obverse II/I 16 - Slightly doubled LIBERTY. Doubled P, R and B of PLURIBUS. Doubled first six left stars and all right stars. Top of cotton leaves and bolls slightly doubled and right side of wheat leaves. Reverse B2a– Same die as VAM 100.1, later die state. Diagonal die scratch in top opening of A in DOLLAR, small semi-circular die impression line on outside of tenth outer feather from eagle's right wing and a few light horizontal polishing lines inside wreath bow. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # Former VAM 114.1 # Shares obverse die with VAM 114 # Exact same reverse as VAM 101 & 101 was struck before the 124. # Some examples (if not all)(including the Discovery piece) show a light but very real radial die crack on the reverse between the star and the O in ONE.
