Description
The 1852 Seated Liberty Dollar is a dollar minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Seated Liberty Dollars 1840-1873 series. With a mintage of 1,100, this is an extremely rare issue — the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 97% of the year's production. The obverse features Liberty seated on a rock, holding a pole surmounted by a Phrygian liberty cap in her left hand and a shield inscribed LIBERTY in her right and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Another extremely low mintage (1,100 business strikes). The 1852 is among the scarcest regular-issue silver dollars. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $11K to $99K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6940.
