Description
This 1835 copper Bucklin's Interest Tables token is another die variety in the series, with a 27.5mm diameter that distinguishes it from the slightly larger HT-348 and HT-349. The diameter variations across Bucklin varieties reflect the use of different planchet stock rather than deliberate design choices — copper strip of slightly varying thickness would produce blanks of slightly different diameter when cut with the same punch. Isaac Bucklin's business model anticipated the modern concept of content marketing — using valuable informational content to build commercial relationships. His interest tables solved a genuine business problem, and the advertising tokens ensured that potential customers encountered his name regularly in daily commerce. The combination of practical utility and persistent advertising created a commercial advantage that sustained the business over multiple years. The Bucklin series also includes "Book Keeping" varieties (HT-356, HT-357) that advertise accounting instruction services alongside the interest tables publication. This diversification indicates Bucklin expanded his business from publishing alone to include educational services, using the same token advertising framework to promote both product lines.
