Description
The 1796 Liberty Cap Right Half Cent - No Pole is a half cent from the Philadelphia Mint, belonging to the Liberty Cap Right Half Cents 1794-1797 series. The 1796 half cent had a mintage of 1,390 in all, With Pole and No Pole together; how many lack the pole is not recorded. The obverse features Liberty facing right with a Phrygian cap on a pole behind her head and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing HALF CENT and 1/200. The "With Pole" and "No Pole" varieties refer to whether the pole for the Phrygian cap is visible. Only about 1,390 half cents dated 1796 were struck in all, With Pole and No Pole together; how many are the No Pole type is not recorded. Struck in copper, weighing 5.44 grams, 23.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1030.
