Description
This Civil War token is cataloged as Fuld 450G-7A from Michigan. The seventh die combination represents the highest known pairing in PCGS's documentation of the 450G series, making this one of the later-produced varieties using this obverse die. The extensive 450G series in Michigan's catalog demonstrates that certain die designs achieved significant production runs, generating multiple varieties that are individually documented and collectible. The variety of metal compositions used in American token production — copper, brass, bronze, nickel, aluminum, white metal, and various alloys — reflects the practical considerations of cost, appearance, and durability that guided manufacturers. Each combination in this series represents a different reverse die paired with the 450G obverse, creating visually distinct tokens despite sharing the same obverse design.
