This undated medal of Franklin D. Roosevelt is a standard U.S. Mint bronze presidential medal honoring the thirty-second President (1933-1945). Roosevelt is the only person elected to four presidential terms, serving from the depths of the Great Depression through the Allied victory in World War II. His twelve years in office fundamentally transformed the American government's relationship with its citizens, establishing the modern welfare state through the New Deal while leading the nation through its greatest military challenge. Roosevelt (1882-1945) overcame childhood privilege, political defeat, and paralysis from polio to become one of history's most consequential leaders. His first hundred days in 1933 produced an unprecedented legislative blitz that created the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Federal Emergency Relief Administration. He died on April 12, 1945, at Warm Springs, Georgia, less than a month before Germany's surrender.
