Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
This undated token bearing the Denver Mint mark was included in U.S. Mint Uncirculated Coin Sets as a placeholder or identifier for the Denver Mint coins in the set. The U.S. Mint began including mint tokens in its annual uncirculated sets to help collectors identify which coins came from which mint facility. The Denver Mint, operational since 1906, has been one of the two primary production facilities for circulating American coinage (alongside Philadelphia). These set tokens are utilitarian pieces that serve a practical identification purpose, but they have become collectible in their own right as part of complete U.S. Mint set collections. The "D" mint mark connects this token to the Denver facility located on West Colfax Avenue in Colorado, one of the most productive minting operations in the world.
