Description

Civil War store card from the Fuld 700C-5f series, attributed to the unidentified issuer "RH." The Fuld 700 "RH" series represents one of the most extensive unidentified issuer groups in the Civil War store card catalog. The initials "RH" appear on tokens struck in numerous die combinations and metals, suggesting commercial-scale production during the 1862-1864 coin shortage. This silver striking represents one of the rarest metal variants for Civil War tokens, produced in tiny quantities for collectors or as presentation pieces. Although undated, this token was manufactured during the 1862-1864 period when private tokens circulated as emergency currency. Over 25 million Civil War tokens were produced before Congress ended private coinage in 1864, making this one of the most extensive series in American numismatics.

Rarity Notes

Silver strikings are considerably scarcer than base metal versions, typically produced in small quantities for collectors or as special presentation pieces. With 19 cataloged varieties, RH was a notable token issuer.
