Description

T. & N. C. McCullough of Anderson issued this token as emergency currency during the Civil War coin shortage. Indiana was an important agricultural and manufacturing state, with merchants producing store cards as emergency currency when federal coinage was hoarded. With 2 known varieties, T. & N. C. McCullough produced a modest number of token types. This copper striking (Fuld 20B-1A) is common among the known varieties. This undated token was struck circa 1862-1864 during the wartime coin shortage.
