Description

This proof matte finish version of the Daniel Carr X-383 "1964-D" Peace Dollar fantasy represents the premium variant of Carr's famous imagining of a coin that was struck but never released. The matte proof finish gives this piece a distinctive satin-like surface quality different from the standard business strike version (PCGS #877747). Daniel Carr has produced fantasy and concept pieces exploring numerous numismatic "what-if" scenarios, but the 1964-D Peace Dollar is among his most famous creations due to the legendary status of the original coins that were supposedly melted. The proof matte finish was produced in smaller quantities than the standard version, adding a layer of rarity within Carr's already limited production runs. Carr's pieces are prized by collectors for their high-quality die work and historically informed designs.

Rarity Notes

Daniel Carr Moonlight Mint fantasy issue, X-383 Proof Matte. Lower mintage than the standard version. Premium finish variant.
