Description

This circa 1875 white metal medal, cataloged as JAB-K-9, is a Kline muling combining Lincoln and H. Brown dies from J.A. Bolen's inventory. The "H. Brown" subject refers to a collector, dealer, or local personality whose identity is known to Bolen specialists. The Kline mulings represent the second generation of production from Bolen's dies, created after the dies passed to subsequent owners who continued to explore new combinations from the existing die inventory. Lincoln's portrait paired with a private individual creates an interesting juxtaposition of public and private commemoration. White metal was the standard composition for Kline-era productions. The K-9 designation places this among the earlier Kline mulings, indicating it was created relatively soon after the dies changed hands from Bolen.

Rarity Notes

JAB-K-9, white metal. Kline muling with Lincoln portrait. Later production from Bolen dies.
