Description
This circa 1869 white metal medal, cataloged as JAB-35, is a later piece in Bolen's numbered series produced during the early post-Civil War period. By 1869, with Grant now installed as president, the political fervor that drove much of the medallic production of the 1860s was transitioning into the Reconstruction era's different concerns. JAB-35 in white metal represents Bolen's continued production of medalets for the collector market even as the Civil War token era had ended. The white metal composition provides a bright silvery appearance at modest cost, suitable for distribution to Bolen's network of collector correspondents. Later-numbered Bolen pieces from the post-war period are generally less commonly encountered than the Civil War-era medallions that form the core of most collections, making JAB-35 a less familiar but no less interesting piece in the series.
Rarity Notes
JAB-35, white metal. Post-Civil War production. Less commonly encountered than the earlier Civil War-era Bolen pieces.
