Description
This circa 1867 silver medal, cataloged as JAB-30, is the precious metal version of Bolen's Libertas Americana tribute piece. The silver composition connects this medal to the original Libertas Americana medals of 1783, which were struck in silver for diplomatic presentation. Bolen's silver JAB-30 thus recreates, in miniature, the premium presentation quality of the original Dupre masterwork. Silver versions of JAB-30 are among the scarcer Bolen pieces, with production limited to fewer than ten examples. The Libertas Americana subject combined with silver composition creates a piece of exceptional appeal to collectors interested in the intersection of Revolutionary War-era numismatics and Civil War-era private medallic art. This represents one of Bolen's most historically resonant designs in his most prestigious metal.
