(c.1860) Token Sage's Historical No. 9 Copper Richmond Hill House
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This copper version of Sage's Historical token number 9 depicts Richmond Hill House, the same elegant Manhattan mansion shown on the brass striking. The copper composition was the standard metal for the Sage series, produced in larger quantities than brass or white metal variants. Richmond Hill House's connection to multiple presidents and vice presidents β Washington used it as his executive residence, Adams lived there as vice president, and Burr owned it afterward β made it one of the most historically layered sites in New York City. Aaron Burr eventually sold the property, and the mansion was converted to a theater before being demolished in the early nineteenth century. Sage's token preserves this important but long-vanished landmark in numismatic form for collectors interested in the architectural and political heritage of early New York.
Rarity Notes
Copper striking, more available than the brass version. Standard availability for the series.
