Description

The Grover Cleveland Presidential Silver Medal for his second term represents the unique distinction of being the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms, entering office as both the twenty-second and twenty-fourth president. This one-ounce .999 fine silver medal was struck at the San Francisco Mint with a matte finish, reproducing Charles E. Barber's original U.S. Mint medal designs. The obverse features Cleveland's left-facing bust with the inscription "GROVER CLEVELAND," while the reverse displays an oak wreath surrounding "INAUGURATED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES MARCH 4, 1885" and "SECOND TERM MARCH 4, 1893." Cleveland's return to the White House in 1893 came amid severe economic crisis, as the Panic of 1893 struck just weeks after his second inauguration, plunging the nation into one of its worst depressions. The Presidential Silver Medal series treats Cleveland's two terms as separate entries, with the "1893" designation in the PCGS attribution distinguishing this second-term medal from the first-term version. Released October 2, 2024 at $90, the medal measures 40.6mm in diameter and comes encapsulated with a Certificate of Authenticity.
