Description
This 2021 medal consists of a counterstamped 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar, created by the Western Reserve Numismatic Club (WRNC) to commemorate the club's 100th anniversary. The WRNC, founded on November 9, 1921 by six numismatists meeting at Weber's Restaurant in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, was the third club ever registered with the American Numismatic Association. The choice of a 1921 Morgan Dollar as the host coin was deliberate, linking the club's founding year to one of America's most iconic coin designs in its final year of production. The WRNC has a distinguished tradition of creating counterstamped coins for milestone anniversaries — they commissioned Medallic Art Company to produce counterstamp dies for their 20th anniversary in 1941, applying them to 1936 Cleveland Commemorative Half Dollars, and repeated the practice for their 50th anniversary in 1971. The club hosted four ANA national conventions in Cleveland in 1924, 1934, 1954, and 1964, cementing its status as one of the most historically significant regional coin clubs in the country. This centennial counterstamp on a same-year Morgan Dollar creates a numismatic piece that simultaneously represents 1921 American coinage and 2021 club heritage.
Rarity Notes
Counterstamp on 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar for the WRNC centennial. Limited production continuing the club's tradition of anniversary counterstamps. The 1941 and 1971 counterstamps are highly collectible precedents.
