(2018-P) Medal Office of Strategic Services Bronze 76mm
Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
This bronze medal at 76mm diameter from the Philadelphia Mint is the large-format version of the Office of Strategic Services Congressional Gold Medal. The 76mm format provides the most detailed and impressive rendition of the medal's design, which honors the approximately 13,000 men and women who served in the OSS during World War II. The Office of Strategic Services was established by President Roosevelt in 1942 under the command of Major General William J. Donovan and was dissolved in 1945, with its functions later absorbed by the newly created Central Intelligence Agency in 1947. OSS operatives conducted some of the most daring and dangerous missions of the war, including the organization of French Resistance networks, intelligence gathering in occupied Europe, and commando operations in the Pacific theater. The 2018-P mint mark and 76mm bronze format identify this as the premium display version of the Congressional Gold Medal tribute, suitable for institutional display or serious medal collections.
Rarity Notes
