Description

Doubling shows in the windows in the arch above the center doorway. It shows in the third and fourth windows from the left in the bottom row of windows and in the fourth window from the left in the second row of windows from the bottom. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Die dent at the rim above the O in OF. Large die gouge inside the lower opening of the E in QUARTER. Obverse Stage B: Stage A markers still present. A die crack runs along the base of the bust to the left of the designer’s initials. Die gouge on the base of the bust above the left side of the T in QUARTER. Die gouge right of the top of the U in UNITED. Obverse Stage C: Stage B markers still present. Three die chips formed on the crack left of the designer's initials. Obverse Stage D: Stage C markers still present. Die chips increased in size. Die gouge above the last T in STATES. Obverse Stage E: Stage D markers still present. First two die chips connected. New die chip on the base of the bust above the E in QUARTER. Reverse Stage A: Weak NE/SW die scratch above the left side of the guard tower. Reverse Stage B: Stage A markers still present. Pre-die break depression on the left side of the building. Die gouge in the bottom right window of the first doorway. Two closely spaced die gouges in the center of the second doorway. Reverse Stage C: Stage B die scratch likely abraded away. Reverse Stage D: Stage C markers still present. Small die chip formed on the depression. Die gouge between the R and O in BROWN. Reverse Stage E: Same as Stage D.
