This 2014 yellow bronze medal at 76mm honors the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders in the larger display format. The 76mm version provides a substantial tribute to one of the most daring military operations in American history. Doolittle's raid required launching fully loaded medium bombers from an aircraft carrier — something never before attempted — and the crews knew they could not return to the ship, instead flying on to China where most crash-landed or bailed out. Eight raiders were captured by the Japanese, three were executed, and one died in captivity.
