2010 Medal 119th ANA Convention Brass, 39mm
Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
This brass convention medal was struck for the American Numismatic Association's 119th Anniversary Convention, held August 10-14, 2010 in Boston, Massachusetts. The medal was designed by Jamie Franki, a former master designer in the United States Mint's Artistic Infusion Program, and features Paul Revere's legendary Midnight Ride on the obverse, paying tribute to one of Boston's most famous citizens. The reverse evokes designs Revere himself engraved for colonial currency, connecting the patriot-silversmith to his lesser-known role in early American numismatics. A border of 119 beads encircles the composition, representing the convention's anniversary number. The 39mm diameter places this in the standard convention medal size range. Paul Revere's selection as the medal's subject was particularly fitting given his dual identity as both a revolutionary hero and a skilled metalworker who operated a copper rolling mill that supplied planchets to the early United States Mint. ANA convention medals depicting historically significant figures connected to the host city are among the most collected in the series.
