Description

This 2008 bronze medal at 63mm diameter commemorates the 100th anniversary of the New York Numismatic Club, one of the most prestigious regional coin clubs in the United States. Founded in 1908, the NYNC has been closely associated with the American Numismatic Society and has counted among its members some of the most prominent figures in American numismatics. The club celebrated its centennial with the publication of a club history and the issuance of this commemorative medal, as well as a joint exhibition with the American Numismatic Society titled "One Hundred Years of Solicitude: Collecting by the New York Numismatic Club." The 63mm diameter β€” approximately 2.5 inches β€” provides a large field for detailed engraving and places this medal in the display-piece category. New York City has been the center of American numismatic commerce since the nineteenth century, home to major auction houses, dealers, and institutions. The NYNC's century of continuous operation through two world wars, the Great Depression, and massive changes in the coin market reflects the enduring appeal of numismatics as a scholarly and social pursuit in America's largest city.

Rarity Notes

Bronze, 63mm. Struck for the club's centennial in 2008. Limited production for club members and the numismatic community. The NYNC's association with the American Numismatic Society adds institutional prestige.
