Description
This 2006 bronze medal at 38mm honors the Tuskegee Airmen, the African American military pilots who served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. The 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group, trained at Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama, flew over 15,000 combat sorties and earned more than 150 Distinguished Flying Crosses. Congress awarded the Tuskegee Airmen the Congressional Gold Medal in 2006 in recognition of their service, which helped pave the way for the desegregation of the U.S. military in 1948. Third-party grading services have brought standardized condition assessment to the medal market, helping establish transparent pricing and increasing collector confidence in authentication and quality evaluation. Regional and local commemorative medals provide historical documentation of community celebrations, institutional milestones, and civic achievements that may be poorly represented in other primary source material. The 38mm bronze medal is the smaller format duplicate for public distribution.
