Description
This 1998 brass token, cataloged as X-582a, is a Gallery Mint Museum concept piece. The "a" suffix indicates a variant or sub-type of the X-582 design, with brass providing a golden-toned appearance different from both the silver and copper versions. The Gallery Mint Museum under Ron Landis produced its pieces in multiple metals to create collecting varieties and accommodate different price points, following the same tradition established by nineteenth-century private die sinkers like J.A. Bolen. Each metal variant of a Gallery Mint design offers a different visual character, as the same engraved details appear quite differently in copper, brass, silver, and other alloys. Gallery Mint Museum pieces from the 1990s represent the peak of Landis's production period before legal issues curtailed his operations.
