Description
This 1997 bronze medal honors Mother Teresa, the Albanian-Indian Catholic nun who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta (Kolkata) in 1950 and devoted her life to serving the poorest of the poor. Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2003, later canonized as Saint Teresa of Calcutta in 2016. The 1997 date places this medal near the end of Mother Teresa's life — she died on September 5, 1997. The secondary market for American medals has become increasingly sophisticated, with specialized auction houses, dealer networks, and online platforms connecting buyers and sellers across a global collector community. Bronze commemorative medals of Mother Teresa were produced by numerous organizations worldwide, reflecting the universal admiration for her humanitarian work.
