Description
This 1996 medal from the Western Reserve Numismatic Club is a counterstamped piece applied to a host 1976-S silver Eisenhower dollar. The 1976-S silver Eisenhower dollar, featuring Dennis R. Williams' Independence Hall reverse design for the Bicentennial, was struck in forty-percent silver composition at the San Francisco Mint for collector sales. Using this Bicentennial silver dollar as a host coin added patriotic symbolism and precious metal content to the counterstamped piece. The 1976-S silver Eisenhower dollar is a large-format host coin at 38.1 millimeters in diameter, providing generous space for the counterstamp impression alongside the distinctive Bicentennial designs. The dual-dated 1776-1976 obverse and the Independence Hall reverse make this one of the most visually distinctive host coins in the Western Reserve counterstamp series. The combination of Bicentennial imagery, silver content, and organizational counterstamp creates a piece with multiple layers of numismatic appeal for collectors of club memorabilia, Bicentennial items, and Eisenhower dollars.
