Coin Details
Description
This 1995 copper token, cataloged as X-580, was produced by the Gallery Mint Museum as a "Concept" piece — an exploration of numismatic design ideas outside the constraints of government coinage. The Gallery Mint Museum, operated by master engraver Ron Landis in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, gained fame for producing exceptionally high-quality hand-engraved dies and striking pieces using historical minting techniques. Landis's work demonstrated that individual craftsmen could achieve quality rivaling government mints, earning him both admiration from the numismatic community and eventually legal attention for pieces that too closely resembled U.S. coinage. The "Concept" series represented the Gallery Mint Museum's artistic explorations, testing designs and ideas that pushed the boundaries of private medallic art. Copper was the most common composition for broadly distributed Gallery Mint pieces.
