Description
Note: Only a few examples of this floating die clash are known. A large die fragment broke away from the southeast quadrant and flipped over before it was struck by the obverse (hammer) die. The digits “89” were transferred to Lincoln’s nose and the adjacent field. These incuse digits are bounded on the left side by a strong impression of the die fragment’s rim gutter.
