Description
This 1977 brass medal is the base-metal companion to the silver version of the 33rd N.E.N.A. Convention medal, held in Connecticut. The brass composition made this version accessible to all convention attendees who wished to take home a souvenir of the gathering, while the silver version served collectors seeking a premium piece. The dual-composition approach to convention medals allowed the N.E.N.A. to maximize both participation in its medal program and revenue from sales. The New England Numismatic Association's convention medal program in both silver and brass created a collecting challenge for completists who sought to acquire every variety across all years and compositions. The 33rd convention in Connecticut continued the N.E.N.A.'s tradition of bringing the numismatic community together for an annual celebration of the hobby, with educational programs, bourse floor trading, and social events that strengthened the bonds among New England collectors. Brass examples, while more common than silver, still survive in limited numbers relative to the small size of the regional numismatic community.
