Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
Swoger catalog number D1976-3g. This yellow bronze medal was struck at the United States Mint in Philadelphia as part of the National Bicentennial celebration. The yellow bronze alloy, with its warm golden tone, provided a visually distinctive alternative to both the standard bronze and precious-metal versions of the National Bicentennial medal. The 1976 celebrations were the culmination of a multi-year American Revolution Bicentennial program administered by the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration (ARBA), a federal agency established in 1973 to coordinate nationwide celebrations. The Swoger catalog (D-series), compiled by Tom Swoger, documents modern U.S. Mint commemorative medals from 1956 onward. The yellow bronze composition offers a golden appearance at an accessible price.
