Description
Swoger catalog number D1975-1b. This bronze medal was struck at the United States Mint in Philadelphia to commemorate the bicentennial of Paul Revere. In addition to his midnight ride, Revere made significant contributions to American industry and military preparedness. He designed and printed the first Continental currency, created the first gunpowder mill in the United States, cast bells and cannon for the Continental Army, and after the war established a copper and brass foundry that supplied copper sheathing for the hull of the U.S.S. Constitution ("Old Ironsides") and copper for the dome of the Massachusetts State House. The Swoger catalog (D-series), compiled by Tom Swoger, documents modern U.S. Mint commemorative medals from 1956 onward. This bronze medal is another variant in the D1975-1 Paul Revere bicentennial series.
