Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
Swoger catalog number D1974-1d. This standard-size bronze medal was struck at the United States Mint in Philadelphia for Expo '74 in Spokane. This small bronze version provided the most affordable collectible from the World's Fair medal program. Expo '74 left a lasting legacy for Spokane — Riverfront Park, the fair's main venue, remains the city's premier public space, and the expo catalyzed environmental cleanup of the Spokane River that benefited the region for decades. The clock tower of the former Great Northern Railway Depot, preserved during the fair's construction, became an enduring symbol of Spokane. The Swoger catalog (D-series), compiled by Tom Swoger, documents modern U.S. Mint commemorative medals from 1956 onward. This is the most accessible entry point in the D1974-1 Spokane Expo series.
