1973-FM Bronze Medal Nixon-Agnew 2nd Inauguration

Description
This 1973 Franklin Mint bronze medal commemorates the second inauguration of President Richard Nixon and Vice President Spiro Agnew on January 20, 1973. Nixon had won a landslide reelection over George McGovern in November 1972, but the Watergate scandal was already unfolding and would ultimately force Nixon's resignation in August 1974 — making this inauguration medal a document of the last moment of apparent triumph before the presidency's collapse. Agnew would resign even earlier, in October 1973, over unrelated corruption charges. This bronze medal is the standard format version of the Nixon-Agnew second inauguration series, which was also produced in larger format with antique finish and in silver. The historical irony of celebrating a presidency on the eve of its disintegration gives Nixon inauguration medals particular interest.
Rarity Notes
