Description

Swoger catalog number D1973-3c. Despite the D1973 catalog number, this large bronze medal was produced in connection with Transpo '72 and struck at the United States Mint in Philadelphia. The medal was produced by the Medallic Art Company (MACO) in connection with the International Transportation Exposition held at Dulles International Airport in 1972. The "MACO" designation in the title indicates Medallic Art Company involvement in production. Transpo '72 drew over one million visitors to exhibits showcasing past, present, and future transportation technologies from around the world. The Swoger catalog (D-series), compiled by Tom Swoger, documents modern U.S. Mint commemorative medals from 1956 onward. The Swoger catalog number D1973-3c may reflect the year of distribution or a delayed production run.

Rarity Notes
