(1970s) Medal John Quincy Adams 34mm Type-2 Peace and Friendship
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This 34mm medal featuring John Quincy Adams is a Type-2 version of the Indian Peace Medal restrike series, produced during the 1970s. Adams, the sixth president (1825-1829), was the son of President John Adams and one of the most accomplished diplomats in American history before his election. His single-term presidency was marked by conflict with Andrew Jackson and efforts to promote internal improvements and scientific advancement. Original Adams Indian Peace Medals were produced in relatively small numbers given his short tenure and his administration's limited Indian treaty activity compared to his predecessors and successors. The 1970s restrike program ensured that the Adams Peace Medal design was available to collectors completing the full presidential set from Washington through Lincoln. The Type-2 designation indicates a die variant within the Adams issue, providing variety collectors with multiple examples to pursue.
