Coin Details
Description
This 34mm Denver Mint medal featuring John Quincy Adams is part of the Indian Peace Medal restrike series produced during the 1970s. This Denver Mint version complements the Philadelphia-struck Type-2 version (PCGS #509798). The younger Adams served as the sixth president (1825-1829) after a distinguished diplomatic career that included service as Minister to the Netherlands, Prussia, Russia, and Britain, as well as Secretary of State under Monroe. His Indian policy was more moderate than his successor Jackson's, but the pressures of westward expansion were already intensifying during his administration. The Peace and Friendship reverse continued the design tradition established under his father's presidency, creating a numismatic connection between the two Adams presidents. The Denver Mint mark on this restrike distinguishes it from Philadelphia production for variety collectors assembling complete mint-mark sets of the 1970s restrike program.
